Makae Golf Course, Princeville

On Monday afternoon, we walked the Makae Golf Course in Princeville.  It was probably the most beautiful course I have ever been on but I guess that isn't saying too much.  Some of the holes were right along the ocean/cliff and had great views.

We also ran into 3 people on the 18th fairway who we had met that morning on our hike.
Small world!

Okolehae Trail

On our first morning, we hiked the Okolehae Trail... It is short, only 2 miles each way, but you gain over 1,200 feet on elevation pretty quickly.  It has rained that morning and the trail was SLICK.  I think I fell 6 times in all. Andy managed to stay on his feet the entire time- go figure.

The views from the top were amazing.  You can see about 2/3rds of the island from up here.

Somehow our nice trail turned into a very thin trail and then into almost NO trail... after doing some serious climbing- I mean holding onto roots and pulling yourself up slick, muddy hillsides, we came out of this:
  to find this:
somehow we got off the main trail onto a "hog trail" so a little while.  I blame the Eagle Scout but hey.  I was just thankful to have the real trail for the trip back down the mountain!
These trees were amazing.  Not even sure what kind they are but roots grow out of the trunk and into the ground for more support... so cool!
