We all know the saying "You can't teach an old dog a new trick" and I firmly believe this to be the case. We love the water and so does Hadley but she doesn't get to go to the lake often because she is CRAZY! She gets so excited she just can't stand it- whining and crying the entire ride to the lake and every second on the boat until we drop anchor and let her get in. Talk about a water dog. She basically takes the fun out of it for everyone else because she just won't sit and relax.
We decided to give her a chance and took her and Macy to the lake with us a few weeks ago. Hadley was her usual crazy water dog self and Macy was just hanging out taking it all in. Andy and Brady were playing fetch with Hadley when her toy sank. She would not come back without it. She just kept swimming and swimming. After about 200 yards of her swimming and us calling her back, Andy dove in and started after her. Another kind boater dove off their boat and cut her off in the water. Since they were about 300 yards away from the boat and Hadley still wasn't swimming toward us despite Andy trying to hang onto her and guide her, I decided to pull up anchor and go pick them up (Hadley is 10.5 years old now). Hadley still refused to get on the boat. I had to drag her on board- and she cried pretty much the entire 2 hours we stayed out there. Needless to say, that was her last boating trip.
Can you see Hadley's orange life vest off in the distance?
Macy on the other hand was wonderful. She is getting used to swimming but is not crazy about it like Hadley. Macy will hop in and swim for a few minutes and then she is completely happy to lay on the sun deck and watch everyone play.
She sure is pretty tho!
The list of things Macy does better than Hadley is short (very short) but boating is on there for sure!!
Brady loves the lake and is a little fish (thanks to his life jacket)!
